Machining and shaping Inconel with the use of traditional techniques can be difficult due to a rapid work hardening. After the first machining pass, workpieces are plastically deformed by work hardening. Such case makes age-hardened Inconels like Inconel 718 machined to their hardest to minimize the number of required passes.
