Inconel 625 (UNS N06625), having excellent resistance to the crevice, pitting, and corrosion cracking can work best against organic and mineral acids. It also exhibits a very good high-temperature strength. Inconel is an austenitic non-magnetic nickel-base superalloy which is often applied in jet engine and chemical process applications.
Compared to alloy 718, alloy 625 has much greater corrosion resistance in environments with high levels of temperature. It has outstanding toughness and strength in the temperature which ranges from cryogenic to 2000 of (1093 °C), derived from refractory metal’s solid solution effects. This Inconel grade can stand stress rupture that’s up to 1200 of (649 °C) and can have scaling and oxidation resistance that’s up to 2000 °C. Alloy 625 exhibits excellent stress-corrosion resistance and fatigue strength to chloride ions.
This type of inconel alloy has proven itself to withstand highly corrosive environments especially in alkaline, fresh water, salt water, air, and neutral salts. Alloying elements like nickel and chromium resist attacks from oxidizing environments. Additionally, molybdenum prevents pitting and crevice corrosion. The alloy is stabilized from sensitization when welded. The chloride element provides resistance against stress-corrosion cracking. All those alloying elements help the alloy resist oxidation and scaling at very high temperatures.
Alloy 625 is good when it comes to hardness, machinability, and hardenability. It mostly has the hardness capacity of 185 BHN to 287 BHN. Its microstructure remains austenitic at both low and elevated temperatures. Inconel alloy 625 cannot be hardened by heat treatment but by cold working.
